Week 20 - Presentation!
My presentation date is May 30th at 9:00am.
Week 18 & 19
Throughout these two weeks, the bulk of my project has been completed. I wrapped up my community service Wednesday the 15th at the Lord's Acre. I recorded footage with my mentor as an interview for my product video. I attended the event that is centered around my product idea, the Haywood County Tent Crusade. I was supposed to interview the minister from the Crusade, but I don't think he will get around to being able to. I really hammered down on completion of my product and paper. I have to finish the little things to put in my portfolio and I will be done! It will be close, but I am optimistic of the completion of my graduation project!
Week 16 & 17
I worked on compiling Kadesha's video from the Raise Your Voice Benefit Concert. I struggled to figure out how to make a DVD because Mac doesn't come with iDVD anymore. Research is still a conflict for me because there is so much reading to go through of the three specific people I'm researching from "The Second Great Awakening." I hope to finish my paper by Saturday. Volunteering I had scheduled got canceled because of rain and set up dates for the tent revival. They will be starting on May 13th at 2PM. I'm very stressed and we are down to the wire, will I be able to pull this off?
Week 15
This has been a slow week but I now have a schedule for set up dates in Haywood County for their Tent Crusade (Revival). Volunteers are needed for set up on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 a.m. at the site. Volunteers are also needed during the following times: Monday, May 13 at 5:00 p.m. - Set up platform; Thursday, May16 at 5:00 p.m. - Set up chairs. I won't be able to volunteer at the Lord's Acre this week but should be going back next week. I will meet with my mentor, Louis Gibson, today and we will begin talking about the set-up for my product, which will be the How-To Video for setting up a revival.
Week 14
Not a lot has happened this week on my final product because I still cannot get ahold of Gret Lentz, the one setting up the revival meeting in Haywood County. I've been thickening my research and getting new resources from the great opportunity that Ms. Johnston gave me from her Gardner-Webb access to the library. I got some volunteering in at The Lord's Acre on Wednesday! I had lots of fun, got really dirty, and got lots of work don't that I think will help them get better use of their property. We did some clearing of pipes, wires, and cardboard. At one point, Franklin, the guy we were working with, got his truck stuck and I got to pull it out! I will be going back next week most likely.
Week 13
I received my second proposal with a full approval! That's so exciting because it has been very difficult. I believe that there was lots of growth on my letter to narrow down my topic and get it through the panel. I am having a hard time getting the person who is a big part of my product get back to me. I hope to meet with my mentor again soon. Research is coming along and I've got to get in gear on writing the paper. I will be volunteering at The Lord's Acre next Wednesday for at least two hours. Things are finally moving along!
Week 12
I turned in my revised proposal letter on Tuesday and was eagerly awaiting the response. If it fails this time than I am really worried if I will able to be able to get a project completed. I received one of them back on Thursday and it said.....Approved with recommendations! That was a relief! So aside from that, I worked on fixing my finial resume and am really trying to focus on my research to get this paper going.
Week 11
Over Spring break, I met with Pastor Ralph Sexton Jr. at the Trinity Baptist Church. I asked him about getting involved with any of his upcoming crusades. The only one he had coming up was May 20th and that seems like it will be too late. I'm worried that I won't be able to use this or be able to find another, but I will ask my teacher next Tuesday after Spring break. He also gave me lots of book resources and told me to keep in touch with him.
Week 8
Got some bad news, my topic was rejected so I've come to a halt. I'm very discouraged about this because I thought it was a good project idea. I understand that I needed to narrow down my topic to one specific awakening or event. I didn't understand how this wouldn't have shown growth because I have never put up a tent, finding a location or coordinating a meeting. This is all new and I need to know this going into ministry. Also, service learning is beneficial to the community, minimally since spiritual awareness changes the hearts and mind of people to be kind to one another in charity, lowering crime rate, and overall just beneficial to the people who gain a spiritual faith. I don't have the time to fight it though, so I am going to look into another topic. An organization was recommended called The Lord's Acre, and its looking like a good possibility for me to use them as a new project topic. I have to start a new form and proposal, find a new topic and mentor. We're back to ground zero!
Week 7
I had emailed the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association seeking the opportunity for community service. The replayed without saying they were excited about my vision but couldn't help me. I also contacted the Buncombe Baptist Resource center about a tent for my final product and they pointed me to renting one from Hendersonville Tents. My biggest concern about that is how much money it will take. I am behind on a lot of the research aspects of the project.
Week 6
I had my mentor fill out the informative papers with his info and began filling out the proposal letter, I'm struggling with finding good community service.
Week 5
I met with my mentor, Louis Gibson, and we talked about the foundations of my project. After supper, we talked about my vision, my need for scholarly resources, what is needed for my final product, finding community service, and best times to meet with him. He is a good mentor because he has good connections, has been in the field of ministry for a long time, and has a similar vision to mine.
Week 1
So far, I have narrowed down a topic that I am interested in. I plan to conduct Crusade/Revival Meeting. For research, I will study the history of these types of meetings and identify large awakening that changed the corse of history, not only in America, but across the world. For community service, I am going to talk to my mentor, Pastor Lewis Gibson, to see if he has any ideas. I will be seeing him tonight 2/5/13 and present my proposed plan.
